Simone Jones

Since 1984 Simone Jones has "been making kinetic sculpture whose movements reference those present in natural forms and phenomena." The artist continues that "Rather than acting as a mirror to the natural world, the pieces focus on simplified and heightened aspects of the observed whole. By transferring an observed, complex, natural system into a material, technological object, the sculptures address issues concerning ordering processes and structural pattern formations that are present within natural forms."
The piece that she is contributing to this show, "Transformation #1", consists of three wooden kinetic sculptures whose forms are based on geometric pentagons. Their proximity and movement create a play of shapes and light reminiscent of flowers, sea anemones, or crystals.
